The Rivers State government has reiterated its commitment to continue enhancing the welfare of corps members posted to the state.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara gave the assurance on Tuesday during the swearing of the 2023 Batch C stream 1 corps members posted to the state at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Nonwa Gbam-Tai.
Fubara represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Office, Government House Port Harcourt, Mr Hamilton Amadi, said his administration will remain steadfast and resolute in ensuring their security and welfare at all times.
My administration is committed to providing the enabling environment for corps members to discover, harness and fulfil their God-given potential.
"We would also pursue the continuity and consolidation agenda in keeping to the social contract with the good people of the state.
"This will be, working in synergy and collaboration with the NYSC to uplift the lives of the youths".
He commended the management of the NYSC for its visible efforts in nation-building, as well as its commitment to improving the operations of the scheme.
In a welcome address, the Rivers State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. George Mfongang informed the corps members that they have pivotal roles to play in the nation's quest to deepen the foundation of democracy.
"Corps members as educated youths and the beacon of light to the nation, are uniquely positioned to turn the fortunes of the nation around positively in all sectors.
"You should see your mobilisation and participation in the NYSC as a rare privilege which must be utilised judiciously for your individual and national development".
He appealed to Gov. Fubara to consider the payment of state allowance to the corps members to cushion the effects of the harsh economic realities in the country, among other requests.
The Oath of Allegiance was administered to the corps members by the Chief Judge of the State represented by Justice Sylvester Popnen.
A total of 1,755 corps members made up of 881 males and 874 females were sworn in on occasion.
