Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has charged the new Director General (DG) of Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC), Comrade Tony Nwifuru to elevate the state-owned radio and television stations to global standards.
Nwifuru on Thursday gave the charge during the inauguration of the EBBC DG, Comrade Tony Nwizi and the Executive Secretary of Local Government Pension Board in Ebonyi State, Mr Emeka Nwonu in his office, Ochudo Centenary City Abakaliki, the State capital.
He said, his administration has made a reasonable financial provision to revitalise the state-owned radio and television stations to compete favourably with their counterparts across the globe.
"EBBC has never been challenged as it is challenged today. But I want to challenge the new EBBC DG to use this opportunity to revitalise the station."
He maintained that the state-owned broadcast stations should be upgraded by the new DG to complete the committee of Arise News, Channels and even Cable News Network, CNN, etc.
He urged Nwizi to carry his staff along and not to discriminate in his office.
While emphasizing the need to sanitize the local government system across the nation, Governor Nwifuru charged the newly inaugurated Executive Secretary of the Local Government Pension Board in the state, Emeka Nwonu to shun every corruptive tendency.
The governor commended Nwonu for being consistent with the APC campaign drives during the last election which led to his victory without minding the opposition forces in the state.
He noted that attempts were made by some stakeholders to shortage Nwonu's appointment due to his young age but his consideration as the governor relied on his doggedness in championing the aspirations of the APC during the last election campaign.
"I could remember how people criticized Emeka Nwonu heavily during the last election but we have succeeded to the glory of God. Many people said that the position was too big for him.
"However, Emeka Nwonu has to be remembered considering that even I as a governor am also a young man occupying this enviable office," Nwifuru said.
