The President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Otuekong Bonny Nyong has described the Super Eagles' hard-fought victory over South Africa as the stuff of true champions.
Stating that the match truly lived up to the billing of a semi-final encounter, he said the team rose stoutly to the occasion by getting the job done in a tense penalty shootout.
Nyong explained that the encounter against the Bafana Bafana was the toughest match so far but was glad that the Super Eagles triumphed eventually.
Said he: "I doff my hat for the team, their determination and spirit to go down the wire were exceptional. They are writing another chapter in our football history.
"Despite the determined efforts of South Africa to stop us from progressing, we showed composure and energy to wear them out.
"We can now look forward to the final with another nostalgic feeling of holding the trophy again after three previous victories. The players have a chance to write their names in gold."
