The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has informed corps members that the scheme exposes them to training which acquaints them with the tradition and norms of efficient and effective leadership skills."
The Director General (DG) of the NYSC, Brig Gen Y.D Ahmed stated this in Nonwa-Gbam Tai, Rivers State when he visited and addressed the 2024 Batch A Stream 1 Corps members currently on orientation course.
Ahmed informed the corps members that the essence of making them undergo a regimented lifestyle in camp is to inculcate in their discipline. and time management.
"It is also to inculcate the tradition and norms of efficient and effective leadership skills into them.
"Corps members should make deliberate efforts to personally secure their lives while waiting for the NYSC scheme and the government to play their part in ensuring maximum safety.
"I charge you to observe the scheme's dress code by dressing properly at all times while also taking the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED), programme seriously,"
He noted that such measures would make them job and wealth creators instead of paid employment seekers.
"I urge you to conduct yourselves well in the host community where you will be posted for primary assignment by obeying and respecting their customs and traditions.
"You should also avoid illegal and unapproved journeys which have caused great harm to some corps members in the past,"
Earlier, the Rivers State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. George Mfongang informed the DG that the corps members are in good spirits and doing exceedingly well in camp.
"They are effectively imbibing and internalising the values and ideals of the NYSC Scheme."
The DG was accompanied to the camp by the Directors - Press & Public Relations, Chief Eddy Megwa, Special Duties, MMrsBona Fasakin and NYSC South South Area Office, Alhaji Ladan Baba.
