The David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS), Uburu in Ohaozara LGA of Ebonyi State has admitted 676 students during her third Matriculation ceremony for the 2023/2024 academic session.
Some students and staff of the University who distinguished themselves through academic excellence and diligence received awards from the Vice Chancellor, Prof Jesse Uneke during the ceremony.
The matriculation ceremony was attended by students, parents, members of the academia, leaders of religious organizations, and people from all walks of life.
While presenting his address, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof Jesse Uneke expressed joy and satisfaction over the innovations and breakthroughs recorded in the institution within a short period. He said that the excellent academic performance of the university has placed the institution on a global map.
Uneke said: "Our Motto is Excellence, Scholarship, and Productivity. Our aim as a University is not only to achieve the reversal of medical tourism but also the reversal of educational tourism. How have we been able to achieve this? Number one is that, we have assembled the best academic staff in Nigeria; the majority of the academic staff have PhD, while the remaining others are close to the completion of their PhD programmes.
"Secondly, we have digitalized our academic conferences, our first-year examinations on university-wide-courses are computer-based tests. All our financial transactions are online and are digital.
"We have exposed our students to start research very early and have granted them access to international databases. We want them to have a least 300 electronic textbooks in their various disciplines before graduation.
"This is the only University where lectures start at 8:00 am and end at 5:00 pm. I am happy to announce that the University has achieved stability in its academic programmes and activities."
The high points of the event were the matriculating students' procession, the Vice Chancellor's procession, the Constitution of the matriculation Assembly, the Vice Chancellor's address, the administration of the matriculation Oath, and formal admission by the Vice Chancellor, among others.
