Hon Victor Chidi Nwoke.
The Chairman House Committee on Youth and Sports and Member representing Abakaliki North Constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Dr Victor Chidi Nwoke (Defender), has congratulated the women folks on this year's International Women's Day, IWD celebrations.
International Women's Day, according to lawmakers, is observed on March 8 every year to celebrate women's achievements and emphasize gender equality and women's well-being.
Nwoke's Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Theophilus Okpua made this known in a press release during the weekend.
He noted that women play a multifaceted role, contributing to family, economy, justice, and social progress and empowering women to benefit society by creating an inclusive and equitable world.
Emphasising the importance of this year's theme: "Invest in women, Accelerate progress," Nwoke said the theme is apt, especially in this period when the country has a dwindling economy. He said that the best way to accelerate economic growth and build more prosperous, equitable societies is to give women a chance to contribute their quota to make the country move forward for progress.
"This year's theme is apt, because of the dwindling economy, hardship, hunger and skyrocketed cost of living which is orchestrated and bedevilled by the economic downturn of the nation, hence the need for women to be given the chance to contribute their quota in ensuring that the country moves forward."
The lawmaker, While wishing them successful International Women's Day celebrations, further stated that a lot of women have contributed positively to the societal growth and economic development of the country. He suggested the need to invest in women by giving them quality education and as well chance to contribute their quota in revamping the nation's economy.
"A lot of women have contributed meaningfully in the development and growth of the nation, I think, it is very momentous we invest in our women by giving them quality and giving them a chance to contribute their quota in revamping and resuscitate our economy to better the lives of the citizens of the country because women are influential and I know they can try their best."
He congratulated them and wished them successful celebrations of the event.
