The Executive Chairman of Onicha Local Government Area, Hon. Chidiebere Uzor Agwu (Obosi) has picked his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms to contest for a second tenure as the Executive Chairman of the council.
Obosi picked up the forms on Tuesday at the APC State Secretariat, International Conference in Abakaliki, according to a press release by his Media Adviser, Chijioke Agwu.
Addressing a mammoth crowd of stakeholders and supporters from Onicha who joined him to pick the forms, Obosi thanked the people for their support and solidarity and promised to spread more democracy dividends to all communities in the council during his second tenure.
Obosi who is the first elected Chairman of Onicha LGA from Onicha Igboeze extraction, thanked the people of Isu, Oshiri, Ukawu and Abaomege for ceding the Chairmanship slot to Onicha Igboeze to enable him to complete his second tenure in line with the zoning principle and rotational agreement within the council.
He commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for setting positive examples in leadership through his people's Charter of Needs, noting that the Governor's monumental achievements in infrastructure and human empowerment were clear motivations for his achievements in Onicha.
He also thanked the stakeholders of the council for their support and goodwill and promised to leave a lasting legacy in Onicha before the end of his second tenure.
He was accompanied to the APC Secretariat by the five Development Centre Coordinators in Onicha Local Government Area, Forum of Town and Development Unions, G-24 women, APC support groups in Onicha, supporters and well-wishers
This development came a few days after stakeholders of the council unanimously zoned the Chairmanship slot to the Onicha Igboeze community where the Chairman hails from.
The stakeholders who gathered at the Abakaliki residence of the former Deputy Governor of the state and Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University Abakaliki, H.E. Elder Prof. Chigozie Nwankwo Ogbu, OFR, noted that it was right to allow Onicha community to complete their second tenure as had been done by other communities that had occupied the position in the past.
Speaking during the meeting, Prof. Ogbu who is the leader of APC in Onicha, appealed to the people of Abaomege and Ukawu to be patient, assuring them that in two years, the seat will return to their constituency, Onicha East.
Others who spoke during the meeting including the former Deputy Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Odefa Obasi Odefa; immediate past Chairman of the council and Commissioner for Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Engr. Felix Ogbonna Igboke; the Coordinator of Ukaba Development Centre, and Hon. Chika Nwangele among other critical stakeholders, jointly agreed that it would be fair and just to allow the Onicha community to go for a second tenure.
The Coordinator of Ukaba Development Centre, Hon. Chika Nwangele however appealed that when it is the turn of Onicha East Constituency, his community Abaomege should be given priority, stressing that Abaomege is the only community in the council that is yet to produce a substantive Chairman of the council.
