Former member representing Ezza North/Ishielu Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Chief Edwin Anayo Nwonu has commended Governor Francis Nwifuru-led government for constituting a zoning committee to ensure the smooth running of the upcoming council elections in Ebonyi State.
Nwonu stated this on Friday when he visited the State Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, APC at Akanu Ibiam International Conference Centre, Abakaliki.
The former federal lawmaker who recently defected to the ruling APC in Ebonyi, said with the principles of zoning and rotation of the elective positions in Ebonyi council areas, clashes of interest by the aspirants would be reduced drastically.
Nwonu maintained that even though he is strongly in support of zoning for the July 20 local government elections, he has no candidate.
"I'm part and parcel of zoning and for our governor having constituted the zoning committee that will perfect zoning arrangement is a perfect one.
"Going by zoning, the people that have interest in the elections will know where they fall in," he observed.
Nwonu, the 2023 Ebonyi guber aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP further observed that the good leadership style of Governor Nwifuru has almost turned Ebonyi into a one-party state.
"In governance, when the man on top is doing well, anything can happen.
"In Ebonyi state today, because of good governance, we are shifting the state to one party system.
"The governor is doing well and that's why we joined his party to contribute to the development of the state."
