Governor Francis Nwifuru.
Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and Trade Union Congress, TUC on the Mayday celebration, asked Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru to 'reinvigorate middle-class manpower training by further increasing subventions for improved enrollment.'
The two unions urged the governor to recall suspended Ebonyi University lecturers for over two years now back to duty.
The Ebonyi workforce demanded these through the chairmen of NLC and TUC, Professor Ogugua Egwu and Comrade Igboji Chidi respectively in a joint address.
"Please consider recalling some of the staff of Ebonyi State University (EBSU) who have been suspended for over two years due to their active involvement in union activities that will ensure better University Management outcomes."
The chairmen also pleaded with the state government for the increment of the welfare package of the workers in Ebonyi state, attributed it to economic hardship, and urged the state governor to consider the demands of Ebonyi workers.
They pleaded with the state governor, Nwifuru to consider the additional implementation of a minimum wage of 20,000 Naira to cushion the negative effects of economic hardship that is ravaging the nation.
The union chairmen, further, requested the reabsorbing of staff of the former EBSUTH teaching hospital into the new EBSUTH by the state governor.
