... Rejects adoption of Nwankwo as State LP leader
The leaders of the Ebonyi State Labour Party (LP) Transition Committee have called for the immediate prosecution of an embattled National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure over alleged forgery perjury, and financial malfeasance.
The State Chairman of the Committee, Comrade Igiri Innocent made the call on Monday at the Labour Party Secretariat in Abakaliki.
He said: "The Nigerian Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Latif Fagbemi SAN should do everything within the ambition of the Constitution of the Federal Republic Nigeria 1999 as amended in union with other laws of the land to ensure imminent prosecution of Abure as directed by the Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun on matter between the Labour Party Leader in Ebonyi State, Comrade Splendour Oko Eze versus Abure and others."
He noted that the matter has been on the table of the Attorney General and however, urged him to charge the matter to the court.
"This matter is before you Sir, and we the leaders of the Labour Party Ebonyi State Transition Committee are calling on you to charge the matter to court.
"That file has stayed long on your table. We took a very far journey to get to the IGP, and a farther journey to finally get to your office, and we won't be tired until we see justice prevail."
Igiri commended the Attorney General's move towards local government autonomy and encouraged him to pursue this agenda with vigor and speed, saying this if achieved would transform a lot of rural communities into developing urban communities in a short period.
He described as an excellent, the Minister's move towards making the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC the legal body in charge of conducting local government elections in the country, and encouraged him to not get tired until the feats were attained.
The Transition Committee members used the opportunity to reaffirm their solidarity for Splendor Oko Eze whom they described as the Leader of the Labour Party in Ebonyi State and their 2023 Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi as the National Leader of the party.
The Transition Committee Chairman therefore warned that nobody should be in disguise of the LP stakeholders to hijack the party leadership in Ebonyi, as he dismissed the report on the adoption of the former Minister of State Health, Chief Fidelis Nwankwo as the LP leader by their members during the weekend.
