The Commander of Neighborhood Watch in Ebonyi State, Prince Victor Chibuoyi Nwenyi has disclosed that the people of the state have not indicated any interest to join the planned hunger protest by the Nigerian youths nationwide.
Nwenyi who stated this on Tuesday while interacting with newsmen in Abakaliki, said Ebonyi residents especially the youths would rather stage a solidarity walk for the leadership of Governor Francis Nwifuru than embark on hunger protest following his excellent performance since assumed office.
The State Neighborhood Watch Commander also revealed that he and his team have carried out an investigation to ascertain the Ebonyi residents' position on the planned hunger protest, but found out they were comfortable with Governor Nwifuru's leadership style in the state.
According to him, Governor Nwifuru's excellent leadership has defeated any form of hunger protest, rather Ebonyi people may come out in mass to demonstrate their solidarity support for his government in considering his landmark achievements especially his peaceful and human empowerment programs since assumed office.
"I have thought about what will be the outcome of the planned hunger protest if it eventually takes place in this part of the country.
"From my findings when interacting with people, I know many are not ready to participate in the planned hunger protest in Ebonyi because the performance of Governor Francis Nwifuru has defeated any form of protest against bad governance in the state.
"This is because across the 13 local government areas and 171 political wards, even the autonomous communities and villages in Ebonyi State, we've seen the dividends of democracy under the watch of Governor Francis Nwifuru, his landmark achievements in less than two years he assumed office.
"Instead of holding a hunger protest, I'm optimistic that Ebonyi people will rather come out in mass to demonstrate solidarity support for our governor's all-inclusive and evident leadership style in the state.
"I interviewed a reasonable number of people, and they told me that none of them were ready to embark on any form of protest which would destabilize the peace of the state. That the Ebonyi youths are not ready for such hunger protest, it's not because they are not part of Nigeria as a country," the Security commander said.
He commended Governor Nwifuru for having been wisely carrying out his leadership functions, noting that as the two-term former Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, he had shown capacity in rendering quality services to the people.
Neighborhood Watch Commander assured of deploying his team alongside other security operatives to every nook and cranny of Ebonyi to ensure the security of lives and properties in the state.
He equally urged Ebonyians to go about their legitimate businesses, and never be part of any violent demonstration in whichever state they found themselves at the present government.
