Ebonyi State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, EBRUWASSA has sunken 47 boreholes following its resuscitation by Governor Francis Nwifuru-led administration.
This was contained in a press release issued and made available to journalists in Abakaliki by the Public Relations Officer in Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Sylvester Egede today.
According to the release, the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Water Resources has paid a familiarization visit to the Ebonyi State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, EBRUWASSA to ascertain its operations.
Speaking during the visit the Chairman of the Committee and Member representing Ebonyi North East, Chief Mrs. Chinyere Nwogbaga, said that the visit was to see to the smooth running of the Agency since the present administration revived the agency from its moribund status.
Mrs. Nwogbaga commended the State Governor, Chief. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for the giant step in the resuscitation of the agency which will ensure the provision of portable water supply to the entire people of Ebonyi State.
Contributing, the member representing Izzi West Constituency and a member of the committee, Hon Chief Godwin Abiri, said the committee would like to be furnished with the assessment of its budget for the year and the structure of its workforce.
Asking a question, Hon . Oluchi Ukie Ezeali representing Afikpo North East, wanted to know the action plan of the agency while Hon Goodluck Obinna Mbam, representing Izzi East commended the State Governor for bringing the agency and implored the Acting General Manager not to sweep the importance attached to the agency under the carpet.
Responding the Acting General Manager of EBRUWASSA, Mr. Joseph Agwu, said the Agency was to oversee the provision, supply, and treatment of potable water to the people of Ebonyi State, and for this, it has sunk over 47 boreholes across the nooks and crannies of the State adding that the only hindrance the agency is facing is drilling rigs.
Also speaking, the Head of the Department of Water Resources, Mr. Pascal Nwov, maintained that the provision of drilling rigs for the agency will enhance revenue generation from the agency and make Ebonyi fully on the ground in its Water, Sanitation, and hygiene program.
