Governor Francis Nwifuru on Wednesday convoked a one-day engagement summit for the youths, women, and stakeholders of Ebony State, urging them to continue to support the present administration in the State and at the national level.
Addressing the people during the event at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki, the State capital, Nwifuru said he was aware of the planned nationwide protest against hunger and bad governance.
He however urged the people of the state especially the youths to refrain from participating in the planned protest, saying it could lead to unintended negative consequences including violence, and destruction of lives and properties, among others.
"I am aware of the planned protest against hunger and bad governance scheduled to take place across the country including Ebonyi State. While I understand the reasons and concerns that have led to this call to action, I strongly urge you all to refrain from participating in this protest.
"As your governor, my administration is committed to addressing the challenges we face, and we are working tirelessly to improve the lives of our citizens.
"However, protests can often lead to unintended consequences, including violence, destruction of property, and disruption of essential services.
"Instead, I invite you to engage with us through constructive dialogue and peaceful channels such as today's event. We have established these mechanisms for feedback and complaints, and we are always willing to listen to your concerns," Nwifuru advised.
The governor appealed to Nigerians to exercise patience with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration which in his word, has continued making efforts to fix the country and make lives better for the citizens since assumed office.
He described Ebonyi as a state blessed with talented and innovative young people and assured of providing the support and resources necessary to help the citizens of the state succeed.
He recalled his leadership impacts in developing the state in less than two years and further assured Ebonyians that his government would continue to rekindle their hope especially the youths for a secure future with a life of comfort and fulfillment.
Nigerian Pilots reports the event was massively attended by the stakeholders and members of the state including the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, former Governor Martins Elechi, former Senate President and Secretary to Government of Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, among others with different social groups that declared to have no protest in the state.
