The Executive Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Barrister Sunday Nwankwo has reiterated that his administration would continue to embark on bold Agriculture practice in the council area.
The Chairman who gave the assurance during the occasion of the Ikwo Noyo 2024 Nnesweoha Festival, Friday at Edukwu Noyo in Ikwo Council Area, said his administration would uphold those norms and cultural practices that distinguish Ikwo people from others.
Nwankwo, the Chairman-reelected during the just concluded local government election in Ebonyi State, further pledged that his administration would continue to unite his council people and provide an enabling environment for them.
"I wish to reiterate that one of the pivotal objectives of my administration is to uphold our agricultural strength, those norms and cultural practices that distinguish Ikwo people from others.
"We will continue to unite our people and provide an enabling environment for peace, prosperity, and the flourishing of all legitimate cultures in our Clan," Nwankwo assured.
While expressing optimism about completing the Edukwu Noyo Civic Center which its foundation was laid last year, the Chairman, prayed as his Council people entered into their traditional new year, that the peace of God would reign supreme in the land.
He commended the state governor, Chief Francis Nwifuru who honoured the event with his wife, and other guests, noting that the governor has created the enabling environment for peace, and unity, and for the sustenance of Ebonyi people's rich cultural heritage.
Emphasizing the significance of the event, the Chairman explained that "Nneswoha festival is a highly cherished inheritance from our ancestors, which both old and young eagerly wait for. It is one of the most important festivals used to renew relationships between parents and children, relations, friends, and well-wishers. It is a season for love and care for one another.
"Nneswoha festival is used to mark the end of the Ikwo calendar year and it is also used as a survival feast from scarcity of food. Most importantly, it is a day set aside for thanksgiving to the Almighty God for His enabling grace to see the end of the traditional year.
"It is important to note that Nneswoha festival is usually a prelude to the new yam festival (Eke-Nwannekwa). Ikwo Noyo people are grateful to God Almighty for the unity, peace, and progress recorded over the years, particularly for this year."
