The wife of the Executive Chairman of Ebonyi local government area of Ebonyi State, Chief Mrs Jessica Chinedu Uburu, has urged women to be strongly committed to building a peaceful home during their lifetime.
Mrs Uburu made the call yesterday during the 2024 August meeting held at Ugbodo, the Ebonyi local government headquarters.
She explained that the August meeting has become an annual ritual which offers a myriad of opportunities to women, especially those in the African continent, to come together and engender a discourse which often contributes to the development of the society.
"August meeting is not alien to us as it has become a ritual that offers a myriad of opportunities to African women to come together and engender a discourse that often contributes to the development and welfare of all in the society.
"This year's meeting is spectacular in many regards, in that it brings a topic that challenges and asks women to up their game and become builders of their homes.
"In taking a quantum leap to lend our efforts and contribute to building our home as virtuous women, in a season replete with break-ups and internal wrangles in marriages, this August meeting offers us all the opportunity to prove our womanhood.
"We are here to make a firm decision: to build or destroy, for indeed, the strength of every home lies in the content of a woman. This decision, I believe, will ultimately reflect our impacts and legacies to society and humanity at large, even long after we have lived and exited the earth.
"Dear Ebonyi Women, would we rather destroy the homes we laboured with our sweat to build?"
She commended the Ebonyi first lady and founder of Better Health For Rural Women, Children And Internally Displaced Persons Foundation, BERWO, Chief Mrs Uzoamaka Mary-Maudline Ogbonna Nwifuru for all her care and provisions to Ebonyi women in general, since her husband, Chief Francis Nwifuru took the mantle of leadership in the state.
She also commended her husband and the Executive Chairman of Ebonyi Local Government, Prince Chinedu Augustine Uburu, for his contributions and ideas, which, according to her, made the entire process for the occasion easier.
"I am also appreciative of the efforts most of you put in place to ensure we have a successful outing today.
"Thank you for sacrificing your time to honour this all-important meeting just as I most profoundly welcome you all to this year's August Meeting, themed, ''The Wise Woman Builds Her Home'' (Proverb 14:)."
