The highest Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, criticized the governors for their failure to effectively engage with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The group expressed disappointment over the Southeast Governors’ inaction regarding the worsening security situation in the region.
Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Secretary-General of the group, in a statement on Sunday, condemned the governors’ lackadaisical approach, which he said has allowed figures like Simon Ekpa, currently based in Finland, to manipulate public sentiment and disrupt economic activities with his declarations of lockdowns.
The group called on Southeast Governors to assert their authority as the chief security officers of the region and employ innovative, local strategies to address the security challenges bedevilling Igbo land.
The organization also urged all Ndigbo to disregard the lockdown imposed by Simon Ekpa and resist intimidation from criminal elements in the region.
