Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has appointed the acting Vice Chancellors for the two new universities in the state.
The newly appointed acting Vice Chancellors are Prof Ernest Agba and Prof Patrick Nwofe. Egba was appointed to oversee the University of Information and Communication Technology, ICT, and Nwofe was appointed to oversee the University of Aeronautics and Space Engineering in an acting capacity.
The Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Engineer Jude Okpor disclosed this while briefing journalists in Abakaliki on the outcome of the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting yesterday.
Okpor said, "As a follow-up to the Council's earlier decision, EXCO after an intensive and exhaustive deliberation approved the appointment of Prof. Ernest Egba, a seasoned Civil Engineer as Acting Vice-Chancellor of the ICT University, Oferekpe in Izzi LGA and Prof. Patrick Akata Nwofe as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Aeronautic and Space Engineering, Onueke in Ezza South LGA respectively."
The council, according to the Commissioner, further directed the State Commissioner for Tertiary Education to swear in the appointed Acting Vice-Chancellors tomorrow, Tuesday 20 August 2024.
He also disclosed that the state executive Council has considered and approved the creation of more communities in Agbaja and Igbeagu, both of which are located in the Izzi local government area of the state.
"Following the request and as necessitated by the sizes of the two communities of Agbaja and Igbeagu, the Council considered and approved the creation of more communities from the two existing communities.
"It is to be noted that this Executive Council decision is subject to the legislative concurrence of the State House of Assembly," Okpor added.
He recalled that before the day's business, Governor Nwifuru, who was the Chairman of the Executive Council meeting inaugurated members of the Ebonyi State Honours Advisory Committee led by the Deputy Governor, Princess Patricia Onyemaechi Obila.
The inauguration, in his words, was in furtherance of the state governor's disposition to citizens’ total participation in governance and rewarding excellence and exercise of his constitutional mandate.
