Governor Francis Nwifuru has charged the executives and members of the Nigeria Association of Auctioneers, NAA Ebonyi State chapter to strictly observe their codes of conduct while discharging their duties in the state.
The governor through the Secretary to the Government, Professor Grace Umezurike gave the charge on Thursday during the inauguration of the new NAA executives at Ochudo Centenary City, Abakaliki, the State Capital.
Nwifuru urged the new NAA executives to sustain the good aspect of their lives which made them emerge victorious during the election.
"I want to believe that for you to emerge victorious during the election, there's something good about you. I urge you to sustain that, which made you be elected to occupy several positions in the Nigeria Association of Auctioneers, NAA.
"I'm saying this because there's something about power. In my area of study, we say power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. So, you have to be conscious of that, and not let the power corrupt you. You have to do your best to justify the trust of those who elected you into the various offices.
"I encourage the newly elected executives not to betray the trust of those who said they have found you worthy to occupy the positions.
"You have to work hard to justify the trust reposed in you and try to leave a legacy before you finish your tenure especially the Chairman. Work hard to build a legacy - what you will be remembered for. The chairman and other executives should try to write their names on the marble.
"I have seen the code of conduct of the association. You individually know that the code of conduct should be obeyed. I want you to know the code of conduct," the governor said.
Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Transport and Special Projects, Prince Collins Igboke advised the NAA executive members to abide by the association's code of conduct, and as well represent Ebonyi effectively at the federal level.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairmen of the NAA, Apostle Eze Elijah Abraham assured of working hard with his members to generate funds for the development of the state.
"We will work hard to make the state proud. We will obey the law of the land, and the rules and strictly operate by our codes of conduct. We will also work hard to generate funds for the development of our dear state. I assure you on behalf of the executives and members of the NAA, we will always be available when we are needed by your office," Eze assured.
The NAA National Trustee, Chief Williams Kalu, and the South East Zonal Chairman of the association, Nze Humphrey Aguoha commended the state government support for the successful election and inauguration of the state executives and emphasized the need not to allow quacks to be members of the organization nationwide.
