Rep Chinedu Ogah.
Disclosing this in a statement, Ogah added that the approval of the President was the right step in the right direction, and appealed to President Tinubu to further look inward in 2025 and make further increment as N1,125 cannot really satisfy the demand for better welfare of inmates.
Ogah who is also the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Reformatory Institutions assured the President that the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa, and all the Staff of NCS, will make judicious use of the approved resources, so that all inmates will be well fed.
The lawmaker encouraged inmates to remain calm and law-abiding as the Federal government was making efforts to ensure that those of them with minor offences were released even as he called on Judges to dispel justice without delay.
He also commended the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas and his leadership, for their support and encouragement, that have brought about the modest achievement, so far recorded by the Committee.
"I want to commend the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency , Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo for the approval of 50 percent increase in the ration food for all the inmates in the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCS.
"The President made an increment of 50 percent, which is N1,125 per inmates. The House of Representatives Committee on Reformatory Institutions see this development as the right step in the right direction."
