The Ebonyi State government has vowed to sanction any teacher who has formed a habit of teaching students in the classroom without a well-written lesson note.
Member 1 of the Secondary Education Board, SEB in Ebonyi State, Chief Lazarus Eze, made this known while monitoring the compliance of the students and teachers during the school resumption for the 2024/2025 Academic Session in the state.
Eze, who toured different schools in the state with his team on Tuesday, 17th September 2024, described a teacher going to a classroom to teach students or pupils without a lesson note as a sign of unpreparedness and laziness in the teaching profession, especially in the first day of the school resumption.
He warned that the state government could not tolerate such teaching methodology, warning teachers to desist from such acts to avoid attracting severe punishment.
He urged both the students and teachers to be serious about their academic activities, advising them to prioritize punctuality, regular attendance and hard work to complement the efforts of Governor Francis Nwifuru to boost the education system of Ebonyi State.
Eze said Governor Nwifuru is passionate about how to make Ebonyi an education hub in the East of Niger, for having declared an emergency in the sector, awarding scholarships to Ebonyi children to further their studies to doctorate levels in Nigeria and foreign countries.
He equally encouraged the parents to send their wards to schools, noting their children starting early in the first term to receive lessons has a greater impact on their academic acquisition and development in the state.
Recall that Eze and his team visited Girls Secondary School Ndulo Ngbo, Izhia Girls Secondary School, Plato Vocational Secondary School Ezzangbo, and Unity Secondary School Amaechi, among others in Ohaukwu local government area of the state.
Some of the teachers, including Mercy Odon Ekuma and Chinyere Ekechi, commended Eze and his team for embarking on the tour, saying the step would promote academic activities and curtail truancy in Ebonyi State schools.
The teachers equally called the students to return to their schools, noting that many of them were prepared for the first term academic activities but could not begin to teach in an empty classroom.
