The Azuegu Mbeke Nwaji Ishieke Youths Assembly in the Ebonyi local government area of Ebonyi State on Tuesday presented a merit award to the Special Assistant to the State Governor on Inter Party Affairs, Comrade Sunday Nwambam, for his commitment to the youth and community development.
While presenting the award in the Cabinet office Abakaliki, the state capital, the President of the association, Benjamin Ugadu, commended Nwambam for having extended the empowerment programmes of the state governor, Chief Francis Nwifuru, to the grassroots people, particularly Mbeke Nwaji Ishieke villagers.
He said apart from his villagers who have received alerts of the 50,000 and 180,000 Naira empowerment fund respectively, other people from different places, especially in the Mbeke Ishieke Autonomous community, have been giving a good account of his benevolent life even before he was appointed by Governor Nwifuru as his Special Assistant on Inter-Party Affairs.
"We think of how to appreciate you but nothing, except for us to give you this merit award for your commitment to the development of our youths and village.
"We are glad about the way you extended the empowerment programmes of the governor to our village; our people have been receiving alerts since your appointment. You brought farm inputs to our village and shared them with our people.
"We came to thank you for your financial donation and your tireless efforts for the construction of the culverts and bridges in our village; this award is just to show that we are very happy for your benevolent life," the President said.
Corroborating, the Mbeke Nwaji Ishieke Village Head, Francis Nwodom and the village Chairman Abakaliki branch, Michael Oja, congratulated Nwambam and described his appointment as a great blessing to the Mbeke people.
They, however, requested the governor's aide and other stakeholders to assist them in providing internet services in their village, saying nobody makes calls with phones these days in the area.
Responding, Nwambam thanked the Youths Assembly for the recognition, noting that he earlier concluded not to be receiving any ward except it comes from the Christian community.
He however, expressed joy that his first award was coming from his country home people, saying it would spur him to do more, "knowing full well, His Excellency Governor Nwifuru's administration remains committed to human and infrastructural development in every part of Ebonyi State."
He urged the youths to continue to work together with the elders, promoting peace and unity, and support the government in power so that more dividends of democracy would be attracted to their village.
Nwambam disclosed that he had written a letter to the MTN network provider and assured the villagers that he would follow it up to ensure internet services are provided in their area.
In their remarks, the former Special Assistant to the immediate past governor of Ebonyi State, Emmanuel Nwangbo, congratulated Nwambam and implored the villagers to throw their weight behind him, noting that his office needs massive support for having set a standard few months after his appointment.
The President General of Mbeke Nwaji Ishieke Youths Assembly also congratulated Nwambam and described the award as a well-deserved one, while commending his humane character and leadership style.
