Two young men yesterday embarked on a solidarity trek from Asaba, the capital city of Delta state, to Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital, in appreciation of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s dedication to improving the lives of the people in Ebonyi.
Nwankwu Sunday and Nweke Onyebuchi, both natives of Izzi, Ebonyi state, were so inspired by the transformation they witnessed in their home state during Governor Nwfuru’s tenure that they felt compelled to show their appreciation tangibly.
The duo set off from Asaba, Delta state, on foot, braving harsh weather conditions and rough terrain to reach their destination, Abakaliki, after a three-day endurance trek.
Along the way, they encountered many challenges, from scorching sun to heavy rain, but their determination never wavered. They relied on the kindness of strangers for food and shelter, and the generosity of well-wishers who were inspired by their journey.
After several gruelling days on the road, Nwankwu Sunday and Nweke Onyebuchi finally arrived in Ebonyi state, exhausted but elated. They were expected to be welcomed by Governor Nwifuru, who was supposed to commend them for their dedication and perseverance.
In a brief interview with journalists, the two young men, Nwankwu Sunday and Nweke Onyebuchi expressed their gratitude and admiration for Nwifuru’s commitment to improving the lives of the people in Ebonyi state.
They vowed to continue supporting and promoting the Governor’s vision for the state and encouraged others to do the same.
The residents of Ebonyi State were touched by their gesture, and I encouraged them to continue working for the development of Ebonyi State and its people.
They praised Nwankwu Sunday and Nweke Onyebuchi for their resilience and determination and urged them to continue being ambassadors for the state.
According to them,” The incredible journey of Nwankwu Sunday and Nweke Onyebuchi serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that good governance and leadership can have on the lives of ordinary citizens.
