The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Ebonyi State Council, Comrade Samson Nwafor has congratulated the newly elected National President of the Union, Alhassan Yahya.
Alhassan secured a total of 437 votes to beat 2 other contestants, Muhammad Garba, who polled 39 valid votes and Dele Atunbi, who garnered 97 votes during the 8th Triennial National delegates' conference held in Owerri, Imo state capital.
But Nwafor, in a congratulatory note, described Yahya's victory as a well-deserved one.
He said, "It's with immense joy that the Ebonyi State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) wishes to profoundly congratulate you, Comrade Alhassan Yahya, on your victory as the President of NUJ at the just concluded 8th Triennial National Delegates Conference held in Owerri in Imo State.
"Your victory did not come as a surprise, considering your wide acceptability amongst Journalists across the length and breadth of the Country. It's indeed a reward for your dedication, perseverance, and humility, which you have undoubtedly demonstrated in serving the Union for over two decades.
"We do not doubt that through your leadership ingenuity, you are going to sustain and improve on the legacies of your predecessor, Dr Chris Isiguzo, MFR.
"We do not doubt that your leadership would work towards building a more united and formidable NUJ for the benefit of both the members and the entire Nigerian populace.
"Please, be assured of the unalloyed support and cooperation of Ebonyi Council to your leadership.
"We equally seize this opportunity to counsel other Presidential candidates to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and close ranks with the new President for the benefit of the Union because we are stronger together."
Recall that Alhassan was sworn in immediately following his victory during the conference.
