Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has described late Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, former Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation as a bridge builder of unity across the ethnic and political divides in Nigeria.
Governor Nwifuru stated this in his tribute to the late elder statesman -Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, the former Abia State governor during the Night of Tributes for him at the Musa Yaradua Centre, Abuja on 4th November 2024.
Nwifuru represented by the lawmaker representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi further described Onu as a good child of God who worshipped Him through selfless services to humanity.
The governor recalled Onu's pivotal role in the merger of other political parties to birth ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in the country.
"On behalf of my brother and leader, the Executive Governor of Ebonyi state, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, I welcome you all to this great occasion to pay tribute to our leader and elder statesman, the late Dr Ogbonnaya Onu. Dr Ogbonnaya Onu as we all know him was a good child of God who spent most of his time working for God through service to humanity. And we believe that at present, he is in heaven resting with his creator.
"He was also the National Chairman of ANPP who played pivotal role in the merger of other political parties to birth the ruling APC. He was a refined gentleman who built bridges of unity across ethnic and political divides.
"He will be remembered for his courage, honesty, resolute calm and fidelity to his own personal convictions. He will be laid to rest at his country home, Uburu in Ebonyi state on 8th November 2024," Nwifuru said.
