The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Ebonyi State chapter has officially suspended the one-week warning strike action in the state.
The minimum wage-induced strike was recently declared by the Ebonyi NLC led by Professor Egwu Ogugua in the state.
The Ebonyi workforce embarked on the strike action following alleged non-implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage in the state as approved by President Bola Tinubu-led government.
But in a press statement issued by the Prof Egwu-led NLC, on Monday, it was stated that the body and other affiliated unions had met with Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State and reviewed the one-week industrial action.
Parts of the statement read: "The State Executive Council of the NLC met today, 9th December 2024, and reviewed the one-week warning strike that elapsed on 00:00 hours of 8th December 2024.
"That the state government has shown a strong commitment to the negotiating
table, having invited and consistently involved us in a long stretch of negotiating meetings since Saturday 7th December 2024.
"That government has shown the desire to sign an agreement with Nigeria
Labour Congress (NLC) after verifiable facts have been presented on the table.
"That His Excellency, the Governor, has appealed passionately for the table
used in the payment of the October and November 2024 salaries to be accepted by the NLC pending a review that will be backed by a better financial standing of the state.
"That His Excellency has promised to continue his goodwill to better the affairs
of Ebonyi workers.
"Arising from the following outcomes, we hereby unanimously resolved that the strike action be suspended, and workers resume duties while further engagements to better the welfare of Ebonyi workers in line with the new minimum wage act continue.
"Meanwhile, we thank the workers of Ebonyi state for their show of commitment and solidarity during the period of the one-week warning strike."
