Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State ordered the 13 local government chairmen to resign if they would not pay the outstanding salaries and pensions of workers before 2pm on Monday, the 23rd December 2024.
This was contained in a press release issued by Monday Uzor, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor yesterday.
Governor Nwifuru gave the directive Sunday during the Elders and Widow's Party organised by the State Government held at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki.
He frowned at the situation of delayed salaries and pensions of staff of Local Government describing it as worrisome.
While insisting on delivering good governance anchored on the Chartered Needs Agenda, the Governor assured that they will not be sabotage in the cause of executing the social contract with the people.
"By 2PM tomorrow, all the staff of the Local Government should receive their salaries and pensions "
" We are determined to deliver good governance to our people. If you are for us, you join us in what we are doing, if you are not you leave.
"If by 2 PM tomorrow, staff are not paid October and November Salaries, the Chairmen should resign", the Governor insisted.
In cheering development, Governor Nwifuru approved immediate payment of 50, 000 Thousand Naira , a bag of 25kg rice and wrapper to each of the 5000 widows and Elders who were hosted to the party.
