Ebonyi SWAN made this known in a communique drafted by the Chairman of the Communique Drafting Committee, Comrade Victor Nwegede, the Secretary - Maria Bisong Imomon, and a member - Nnenna Mbah, yesterday after its general meeting presided by its state Chairman, Comrade Ndubuisi Nwogha.
In a communique signed by the SWAN State Secretary General, Cosmas Egba, the members of the association, in their show of joy for successful elections, recently thanked the Ebonyi State government led by Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for its support to the organization in the state and lauded its commitment to reviving the hitherto moribund state sports sector.
The Association also commended Governor Nwifuru for floating a brand new state-owned football club, Abakaliki FC, which is currently campaigning in the ongoing 2024/2025 Nigeria National League season, and other efforts of the state government in ensuring that sporting activities are brought back in the state.
The SWAN members further thanked the State Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Prince Richard Idike, the Director General of Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation, Comrade Tony Nwizi, the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), Ebonyi State Council, Comrade Samson Nwafor and other stakeholders in the state for their unflinching support to the Association i
The body assured the Ebonyi State government of giving its programs and projects in the sports sector the desired media attention and urged the government at all levels to prioritize sports development in their 2025 development agenda.
The Ebonyi SWAN members earlier commended the National leadership of the Association led by the National President, Isaiah Benjamin, for its commitment to living up to its mandate of advancing the course of the organization.
They expressed appreciation to the National Executive Committee, NEC of SWAN for upholding the just conducted SWAN elections in Ebonyi State chapter of the Association.
"While thanking the entire members of NEC for this singular act and also for standing on the path of truth, justice, and fairness, members of the Association unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the National leadership of SWAN and assured of their loyalty, solidarity, and support at all times.
"Ebonyi SWAN also expressed heartfelt appreciation to the National Secretary of SWAN, Comrade Ikenna Okonkwo, the National Financial Secretary, Comrade Ijeoma Peter Nwante, the National Vice President, South East, Comrade Ikem Asika and the Chairman, Ebonyi SWANECO, Comrade Emeka Opara for their undiluted support to Ebonyi State Chapter of SWAN," the communique added.
The members of the association equally congratulated the newly elected Ebonyi State Executives of SWAN led by Comrade Andy Ndubuisi Nwogha on their elections and successful inauguration and charged them to take the Association in the state to a greater height.
The Ebonyi SWAN, while welcoming with open arms the plan by the National leadership to set up a reconciliation committee, called on the aggrieved members of the Association in the state to let go of their grievances in the interest of the Association as elections have come and gone.
Accordingly, the new leadership of SWAN in the state set up a committee to interface with a few members who were aggrieved over the outcome of the just conducted elections and bring them back to the fold.
The SWAN members expressed their readiness to carry out their membership registration for the year 2025 early and assured partnership with the stakeholders who wish to invest in sports in the state and beyond.
