An Ebonyi-born journalist and staff of the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, Mrs Ijeoma Comfort Peter Nwante, yesterday won an excellent award as the Most Dedicated Media Security Correspondent during the 2024 West African Social Activities, WASA at Nkwegu Military Cantonment Abakaliki.
The Commander Nkwegu Military Cantonment Abakaliki, Lieutenant-Colonel Audu Bako, presented the award to Mrs Nwante, the National Financial Secretary of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, through her husband, Mr Peter Nwante, also the NTA staff during the occasion.
Speaking at the event, Bako described WASA 2024 as Nigeria's rich cultural heritage and diversity at the sports field of the Nkwegu Military Cantonment Abakaliki.
According to him, the event climaxed with a tug-of-war competition, cultural displays and presentation of awards to the neatest soldiers in the cantonment as well as to the Most Dedicated Media Security Personality, of which Mrs Nwante was the winner and the lighting of a bonfire, has provided an opportunity for officers and soldiers of the Nigerian army to celebrate with their families and host communities thereby taking them away from their rigorous exercise.
He added that "it is a time of various rich and diverse cultures of the country to display their potentials."
The Commander while welcoming guests at the event eulogized the strength and courageous efforts of officers and men of the cantonment in giving their best to see that the lives and security of the state are paramount, acknowledging with a deep sense of patriotism the anxiety and emotional challenges, the soldiers' families and friends have to contend with as officers and soldiers strive for the peace and unity of Nigeria.
In their remarks, Nwante and other awardees expressed gratitude for the awards given to them and assured continuous support to the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in the state to ensure the effective discharge of their duties.
They commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the GOC 82 Division, Major General Hassan Dada, the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Audu Bako as well as officers and men of the cantonment for the civil-military cooperation.
Recall that Ijeoma Comfort Peter Nwante was born in Lagos, Nigeria, on the 22nd of September 1987, into the respected family of the late Elder Chukwuma John of Aguobugo, Ohofia-Agba in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
She attended her primary school at Saint John Nursery and Primary School, Olodi Apapa.
She thereafter proceeded to her secondary education at Awodi-Ora Secondary School in Lagos State.
Ijeoma Comfort Peter Nwante, in pursuance of her tertiary education, was admitted into the Ebonyi State University (EBSU) in 2004, from where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication in 2008 and was later mobilized for the compulsory National Youth Service Corps NYSC in Edo State.
She was employed by the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), the African Largest Television Network, in March 2012.
Owing to her demonstration of willingness, passion for the job and vigour to work, even under challenging circumstances, Ijeoma Comfort Peter Nwante was given a beat as a security correspondent by NTA in 2016, a decision that brought her in contact with the Nkwegu Military Cantonment Abakaliki.
She is a news reporter, a news producer, a program and news presenter, a sports writer and currently, the National Financial Secretary of the Sports Writer Association of Nigeria ( SWAN).
Her hobbies include travelling, table tennis and listening to good music. She is happily married to Mr Peter Nwante and the marriage is blessed with children.
