Speaking at the grand finale of the tournament held on 5th January 2025, the philanthropist commended the Alike Unity Cup central planning committee for their efforts in ensuring that it was a success and the teams for their show of sportsmanship. He emphasised that the essence of the unity cup was to further unite the youths of Alike, harness talents and attract development to the area.
He called on other stakeholders and well to do sons of Alike in politics, business, academic and other sectors to queue into the initiative to further harness youth potentials, build peace and unity of Alike Community and in extension, Ikwo Noyo Clan.
The business mogul who pledged to always be part of the annual sponsorship of the tournament, gave the cash support of N500,000 to first position Enyibichiri, N300,000 to second position Ndufu Alike and N200,000 to third position, Noyo. The cash rewards was aside the funding of other expenses for the tournament.
Guests at the ceremony, including the State Commissioner for Boarder Peace and Conflict Resolution, Dr. Donatus Ilang, Ebonyi State APC youth leader, Comrade Ogbonnaya Alo, former Coordinator of Ikwo East Development Centre, Hon. Dickland Ovunna and others thanked the sponsor, the committee and the teams for the colourful outing. They thanked the State Governor, Rt. Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for creating conducive environment for sports and other developmental activities to thrive in the State.
Chairman of Alike Unity Cup central planning Committee, Comrade Collins Ugochukwu Onuoha and the secretary, Pacesetter Israel Ekene Mbam, thanked stakeholders and sponsors of the tournament for investing in youth development. They also praised the maturity and brotherly love exhibited by the teams during the competition and promised to improve in subsequent editions.
Other dignitaries who graced the grand finale of the Alike Unity Football tournament included the President General of Ikwo Youths Consultative Forum, Dr. Onyechi Nwankwo, former National President of Alike Development Union, Chief Livinus Ilang, National President of Enyibichiri Development Union, Engr. Chukwuma Ojeogu, SA to the DC Coordinator, Chinua Nwele, and Ward Councillors. Others are Chief Sunday Obasi, Hon. Friday Ucha, Prince Matthew Enyita, business moguls, community leaders among others.
