Governor Francis Nwifuru has warned the beneficiaries of the Ebonyi State Foreign Scholarships scheme not to emulate Simon Ekpa, whose action had allegedly led to violent demonstration, destruction of lives and properties in the Southeastern region of Nigeria.
Our Correspondent learnt that Simon EKpa is an Ebonyi indigene sent to Finland to further his education under the state scholarship scheme many years past.
However, Ekpa after finishing his education program in Finland could not return to home to become helpful to his state and his country Nigeriam
He turned a Finnish politician and Biafran political activist as he in 2022, declared the activation of the Biafra Government in Exile.
He notwithstanding in 2023 declared himself the leader of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile.
Flagging off the overseas scheme at Chuba Okadigbo International Airport in Onueke in Ezza South LGA Ebonyi State, Governor Nwifuru told the beneficiaries not toe Ekpa's path
"Do not toe line of Simon EKpa, who has not only brought shame to the Ebonyi State but has aided shading innocent blood and destruction of properties worth billion of Naira through his activities with IPOB in the South East Nigeria."
He explained that over 204 students gained the state scholarship to study in Canada and United Kingdom, and are expected to return back to the state after three years of higher Degree education.
He said the 204 students are expected to depart from the Airport not later than 7pm on Saturday, noting that the remaining 96 out of the 300 beneficiaries for the overseas study, would be soon departed for the program, as the 700 of them undergo their studies within Nigeria.
