The President of the Senate and Chairman of the 10th National Assembly- His Excellency, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio has led a delegation of the principal officers and some members of the joint chambers of the National Assembly on a new year homage to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria- His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu at his Lagos residence- Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Ikoyi Lagos on Wednesday, 1st January, 2025.
The President of the Senate, Senator Akpabio commended President Tinubu for his bold and pragmatic economic reforms assuring him that the 10th National Assembly is solidly behind his administration. According to Senator Akpabio:
"On this journey of restoration, transformation and rebuilding the nation, you are not alone. The National Assembly is with you and will stand by you,"
In his own remarks, the Speaker of the House of Representatives-Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas applauded President Tinubu for his cooperation and fatherly support to the National Assembly while reiterating their commitments to driving the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration. He also emphasized that the 10th National Assembly is strongly united more than ever.
Speaking from the sideline, the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate and Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial district- Distinguished Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi extolled President Tinubu’s economic reforms and leadership ingenuity describing him as an exceptional and experienced leader who understands the dynamics of the Nigerian economy. He equally lauded the Senate President- Senator Godswill Akpabio for uniting the National Assembly and his inclusive leadership style.
Responding, President Tinubu expressed delight for the visit noting that his administration is emboldened by the National Assembly's unflinching support over the last 19 months adding that he is determined to take Nigeria to the Promised Land. In his words:
"Nigerians are the heart of everything we are doing. We have come to serve. You have made my day by coming on this visit. Happy New Year. May God bless you and our country and give our nation more prosperity.
"The transformative journey we have embarked upon is for all of us. It is for our tomorrow. It is for the future generation. Your commitment will yield that fruit for the babies yet unborn.
"Your commitment to value addition and bringing about the spirit of can do and must do is for all of us together.
"It is for us to build a nation. We have confidence and competence. The enslavers want us to be anything but enslaved people, but we say no. We are determined, we are capable, and we are resolute, and we will be there. We will take Nigeria to that Promised Land with you,''
While appreciating the invaluable contributions of the lawmakers in nation building, President Tinubu reiterated his commitment to inclusive governance and to take courageous steps that will restore Nigeria to its Eldorado.
