Ebonyi First Lady, Mrs Uzoamaka Nwifuru, yesterday commended the Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, for embarking on life-touching projects in his Ebonyi North Senatorial District.
Mrs Nwifuru made the commendation while interacting with journalists after inaugurating the houses which were built by the senator for some widows in Ebonyi North Senatorial District.
Our Correspondent reports that Nwebonyi built a well-furnished 3-bedroom apartments for widows and gave each of them N500,000 grants during the handover ceremony.
The beneficiaries of the Senator's House project for the downtrodden included Mrs Nnenna Adoke at Ndigwe Igbeagu, by the Teacher Training College, TTC in Izzi LGA, Mrs. Patricia Ben Nwofoke at Adam Village, Ndiuruku Amegu in Abakaliki LGA, among others.
The Ebonyi First Lady also inaugurated an 8000-litre motorized borehole at Ndunkwegu Primary School, Enyibuchiri Amegu, Abakaliki, constructed by Senator Nwebonyi.
She stated that Senator Nwebonyi has relieved some burden from her by remembering the widows and prayed God to continue to bless them and congratulating the beneficiaries
Her words: "Senator Nwebonyi has shown that he has the interest of the people at the heart likewise, the Governor of our dear state, and that's why we have these projects.
"He has shown example, he has shown quality representation and this is to show that the federal government is working and we are reaping the benefits of Senator Nwebonyi being in the National Assembly.
"We will continue to support our Senator to continue to do more for us."
She called on other lawmakers, whether in the State or at the National Assembly, to emulate Nwebonyi to continue touching the lives of Ebonyi citizens.
The First Lady used the occasion to celebrate Valentine's Day for the downtrodden in their various base in the capital city of Ebonyi State.
Senator Nwebonyi, while addressing Mrs Nwifuru, said the shelters of the beneficiaries were very poor, which led to their nominations for the construction of befitting houses for them.
He disclosed that the Catholic Bishop Emeritus of Abakaliki Diocese, His Lordship Michael Nnachi Okoro nominated some of the beneficiaries for the projects as he never knew them.
He commended Mrs Nwifuru for inaugurating the projects despite her tight schedules and assured her that he would continue to better the lots of the less privileged and his constituents.
"I have a passion for helping poor people; I started doing this before I joined politics. I started building houses for people with poor shelter when I was in legal practice.
"God saw what we were doing and elevated us into public office, and it is an opportunity to amplify that good intention," the Federal Lawmaker said.
Speaking on the motorized boreholes constructed in Enyibichiri Amegu in Abakaliki LGA, Nwebonyi noted that he understood that lack of potable water was the major problem the people of Ebonyi North Senatorial District were facing, which, in his words, made him construct some boreholes in his area of jurisdiction.
