Nigerian Dental Therapists' Association (NDTA), Ebonyi State chapter, has secured the partnership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi State Council, in driving its oral health awareness campaign across State.
The partnership was sealed during a Courtesy visit on the State Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Nwafor Samson, on Wednesday, by a delegation of Ebonyi State Chapter of NDTA led by its Chairman, Mr Samuel Nwafor, at Dr Sam Press Centre, Abakaliki.
The courtesy visit, according to the State NDTA Chairman, was to seek the partnership and support of the NUJ leadership in the State ahead of the forthcoming 2025 World Oral Health Day celebration.
Mr Nwafor said the World Oral Health Day would commence on Tuesday, 18th of March, 2025 and end on Thursday,20th of March, 2025.
He said: "we use this occasion to talk to people and educate them on oral care. And we don't do this only at the confines of hospital environment, we take a step further by going to schools and communities, etc, to educate the people.
"This year's World Oral Health Day, as always, we intend to embark on an awareness campaign, to talk to the people about their oral health and current practices in dentistry, give them some interventions and identify those that have cases that need referral, and treat them at no cost. It's our own way of giving back to the society.
"We have outlined some activities to mark this year's event. It's usually a week long programme, but we are coming at a disadvantaged time, we just took over about two months ago. So, we calling on the leadership of NUJ, Government and other public spirited individuals to support us to have a successful 2025 World Oral Health Day in the State."
Responding, the State Chairman of NUJ, Ebonyi State Council, Comrade Nwafor Samson, noted that oral health is the most neglected aspect of human health, and commended the State chapter of NDTA for their efforts in carrying out orah health awareness campaign across State.
The NUJ boss stated that the world oral health day should be a day of aggressive oral health campaign acros communities and public institutions in the State to educate people on the imperative of oral care, and urged the people to take oral health seriously.
While urging NDTA to sustain the tempo, Comrade Nwafor assured the association of the total support of NUJ in driving the oral health awareness campaign to the nooks and crannies of Ebonyi State.END//
