Ebonyi born entertainer and stand up comedian, Mr Friday Nwifuru known as I Go Yarn in this exclusive interview with our Correspondent, Nwogha Ndubuisi narrated his experience in twenty five years journey in the make believe industry where he encouraged the youths who have the gift to take advantage of the new media and other medium to sale themselves.
May I meet you Sir?
My name is Friday Nwifuru (popularly known as I Go Yarn Stuff) an event Compere, Comedian, Movie Director and Actor. I am from Ogbodo Ipfeigwe autonomous community in Igbeagu Development Center of Izzi Local Government Area, Ebonyi state.
How can tell your story as a man who has been in the set for the past 25-year?
My days in entertainment industry has been tremendous, and successful, though no success without hurdles. Yes, we keep pushing because we are painting the future we're going to feature.
We have been there for the past twenty five years combining Comedy, Compere, Skit making, directing, acting, advert, jingle and lots more and we can beat our chest to say that's what we are doing for the past 25-years.
My days have been filled with stories, both the good, the ones somehow based on individual perspectives, but the most challenge to had experienced in the industry as I celebrate my golden jubilee is issue of finance, because you might have good script that will announce your name globally, but there wouldn't be money to produce it considering the fact that a good movie is capital intensive. The hardest encounter I have witnessed was in 2006 when I launched my first musical album and invitation was made with expected ovation, but only 60-copies was sold as it was people that came. I spent not less than 400,000 , but realized 70,000, but I saw it as a challenge and did not give up.
You are coming up with 25-year on stage event, what's it like?
This 25-years on stage event was to publicly say it loud, the trends and how this entertainment is been done, the lives I have touched, my contributions in the society, those I have been able to shoot movie with, and those that I have been able to address as a comedian, those I have been able to entertain and those that have associated with me as say, that I have paid my due in this industry.
Can you say that Ebonyi people are supportive when it comes to indigenous entertainers patronage?
I must first to thank my people as I will say that they love to use what they have. The like of His Excellency, RT Hon Builder Prince Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, the former Governor, Chief Martin Nwanchor Elechi and wife, Chief Mrs Josephine Elechi who saw where I was anchoring my joke in a traditional marriage and sent for me and since that day found me worthy, Dr. Zig Nwangele, Arc. Dr. Sir. Edward Nkwegu, and above all, His Excellency, RT Hon Builder Prince Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru who there's no any programme that he has ever hosted even before his marriage including traditional marriage,I was the one who anchored it and thoroughout his period in the state Assembly until as a governor, he did find me worthy to be part of his Programmes and my gratitude has continued to be with him.
What's your advice to upcoming entertainers?
Entertainment is worth venturing into, just like the scripture says, a gift of a man maketh a way for him and that's what entertainment is all about. I am encouraging all Ebonyians to keep pushing, though, the industry needs one to invest alot of money in his craft, but don't get tired trying to break through.
Don't be discouraged, as there's no crown without cross and be rest assured that a day will come, people will struggle to have handshake with you.
