Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), Ebonyi State Council have elected new officers to pilot their affairs for the next three years.
The new NUJ officials in the state included the incumbent chairman, Comrade Samson Nwafor, who was returned unopposed to serve his second term in office by the council members.
Comrade Nwafor was sworn in alongside six other executive members including the Vice-chairman - Moses Irogu; Secretary - Chinaza John; Assistant Secretary - Moses Eze treasurer - Juliana Okoro, Financial Secretary - Israel Mbam, Internal Auditor - Angela Ekuma, who were all returned unopposed.
Speaking during the event, the Director-General of Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC) and the immediate past Chairman of the council, Comrade Tony Nwizi expressed satisfaction with the overall conduct of media practitioners in the state.
Comrade Nwizi assured members of the union of the government's support and noted that the state government was committed to ensuring the welfare of journalists in the state.
In his inaugural address, the re-elected chairman, Comrade Nwafor thanked the electoral committee led by Tony Ukwuome for conducting a credible election.
Nwafor promised to continue to promote, protect and defend the integrity of the NUJ in Ebonyi State and Nigeria.
He commended the administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru for its continued support to the Union, especially for giving journalists in the state, free hands to perform their constitutional duties.
The Chairman used the opportunity to appoint Tony Ukwuome and Chukwuemeka Opara as Ex-offio one and two of the union respectively.
Also, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Ebonyi State, Prof. Ogugua Egwu urged the newly elected leaders to take the union in the state to the next level.
