A man whose name was identified as Nwoyika Ugbaloke has been shot dead, two others injured and many people missing in Ndiagu Amagu Ikwo in Ikwo LGA of Ebonyi State over a community leadership tussle.
The deceased, Nwoyika Ugbaloke and Thomas Ngaragu were attacked by a gun-wielding group but Ugbaloke did not survive the attack.
Many people are said to be missing from the community following the attack.
Nigerian Pilot gathered that the trouble started when a faction in the community imposed an N40,000 levy on every adult native of Nduche Umuomara in the community which did not go down well with another faction in the area.
It was also gathered that the faction that imposed the N40,000 levy on the adults, was also selling lands belonging to the faction that opposed the levy.
Son of the deceased, Nwoyika Kingsley Emeka who lamented the killing of his father and called for arrest of his killers.
He said the killers are moving freely in the community healing people's farmlands with palm fronds and warning them never to set their feet on the farms unless they pay fines.
He alleged that the perpetrators are being protected by some highly placed persons in the community including a former political officeholder in the area whom he said is their sponsor.
Emeka called on Governor Francis Nwifuru and the State Commissioner of Police, Adaku Uche-Anya to intervene in the matter to prevent the perpetrators from boasting to eliminate those carrying out nefarious activities in the community.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu said he has not received a report on the incident.
