Ebonyi Commissioner for Works, Engr Lebechi Mbam, yesterday disclosed that over 200km road is still under construction across the state.
Mbam made this known during the flag-off for the construction of an 8km road that links four villages including Ebyia Unuphu, Nkaleke, Echara and Mgbabor within Abakaliki, the state capital.
He said the road would be completed within eight months by the Governor Francis Nwifuru-led administration in the state.
The Commissioner explained that the road project was divided into four and handled by indigenous contractors to ensure timely completion.
Mbam described the recently flagged-off 8km road project as very important, noting that its construction would make evacuation and transportation of farm products to urban markets very easy and increase food sufficiency in the state.
"These are rural roads. We have a lot of agricultural activities going on in these villages and when we construct this road, it will help us to improve our agricultural activities which will help us to produce more agricultural products that will help to reduce food scarcity.
"So, this road is very important. Most of our rural roads are given attention and Ebonyi State has been turned into construction sites. Every community is receiving attention in road construction," he said.
The Commissioner recalled that so much infrastructure has been put in place by the present administration in less than two years.
Mbam said more roads would be flagged off in the state in line with the People's Charter of Needs manifesto of the state government.
He urged Ebonyi residents to continue to support Governor Francis Nwifuru in his avowed determination to change the narrative of the state.
